Yogi Bhajan said that the “Gong is the sound of creation. All sounds and all words have come from it. It is the nucleus of all words. It is the multiple, projective sound to put you through. It is not a drum or a musical instrument. It is God. It is reinforced vibration. It is like a million strings vibrating at once. Only instrument in which you can create the space vibrations - where you can become weightless and soundless and go through it. We use all tools with only one purpose that a person should come to a state of affirmativity. Life becomes ‘yes’ to you. The word ‘no’ should be eliminated from your vocabulary.”
If you’re interested in purchasing a beautiful Paiste Symphonic
gong call 312-922-4699. |

"Yoga for Radiance and Victory"
at Kundalini Yoga in
the Loop |
Radiance is your projection. When you walk into a room what do you project to those already there? When you enter is everyone’s attention unconsciously drawn in your direction? Can your presence uplift someone who is down? Can you uplift someone across the room? Someone you’ve never even met before? When you have a strong radiant body you have to be able to stand all the attention and projection you attract!
This inner light of yours needs a strong electromagnetic field, or, aura, to be able to contain and sustain your energy and projection. “Your radiance should be so strong, that even if a hateful person sees you, it should totally neutralize the other person’s psyche so that they experience nothing but love and friendship,” said Yogi Bhajan about this very topic.
Come to Kundalini Yoga in the Loop (KYL) during the summer months for classes especially designed to...
• Expand the brilliance of your aura;
• Strengthen your magnetic field for protection against negativity, fear and hatred;
• Cultivate your presence to heal, deliver and lead;
• Develop your ‘inner shine’ to emit confidence, trust and grace; and
• Be the light to illumine every dark corner of the world!

Welcome New Baby...
Benjamin William Gillespie Born June 10, 2011
Congratulations to mom Sarb Nidhan Kaur Gillespie and dad Benjamin!
|

Even though she became pregnant shortly before the start of KYL’s nine-month Teacher Training course last fall, Sarb Nidhan Kaur realized it probably was the only time she’d be able to complete the Teacher Training course – before the baby arrived. That, coupled with the fact that her due date was on our graduation weekend and her own birthday, became a compass that pointed her in the direction of taking and completing the course—now!
And, complete the course she did! It turned out that there was no better atmosphere for her—the company of a loving and supportive class of women-only teachers-in-training (a first for KYL’s Chicago course because usually men are well-represented!).
‘Baby Benjamin’ was born on June 10th at 7:13 am weighing in at 9 lbs. 15 oz. ‘Twelve uncomfortable days late,’ says mom Sarb Nidhan Kaur.
While she wouldn’t describe his birth as ideal---12 hours of labor with 6 hours of those pushing all to end in a C-section--Sarb Nidhan told us, ‘He may have had a traumatic birth, but he is a really peaceful baby!‘ We have to agree, especially after seeing the photo of him sleeping underneath an image of Guru Ram Das (the 4th of the Sikh Gurus/Saints who is also called the Lord of Miracles).
Welcome to the planet, Baby Benjamin. We are very happy that you are here! And, we are also very happy that you and your mom are doing so well, too!

‘YOU SAVED MY LIFE’

40 Days of Chanting 2.5 Hours of Long Ek Ong Ka
Day
11 of 40 is today! |
Shakta continues her story from last week:
“While Hari Dev Singh was undergoing chemotherapy and radiation I decided that I was not going to travel anywhere for any reason. It was on one of those non-travel days that I was awakened at 3:30 am by a rather strange loud sound in our bedroom. I realized that sound was Hari Dev breathing--very laboriously. ‘Well,’ I thought, ‘he isn’t getting much sleep in the hospital. I’ll let him sleep now and I’ll wake him later.’ I slid out of bed and into my cold shower before beginning 2.5 hours of Long Ek Ong Kar.
But, something just didn’t feel right. Every 20 minutes I’d continue chanting but get up and walk into the bedroom to check that Hari Dev was still breathing ... which he was ... loud and laboriously. I went back-and-forth like this the entire 2.5 hours. When I finally finished I went back into the bedroom to wake him up.
Waking Hari Dev up in the morning during this time meant that I would often crawl back into bed with him after my sadhana. Only this morning when I crawled back into bed he was drenched with perspiration. And, he didn’t move a muscle.
Calling his name I walked around the bed to look at him. With my hand on his shoulder I pushed to wake him up, but, he was not responding. I pushed harder. Then for some reason I decided to pull back his eyelids. His pupils were fixed and dilated. My next words were not very yogic as I ran for the phone and dialed 911.
Four paramedics and 30 long minutes later one of them said, ‘Ma’am, come into the bedroom and talk to your husband.’ Hari Dev was sitting up (with assistance). ‘Baby, I could not wake you up. We’re going to the hospital,’ I said. ‘Everything’s going to be all right.’ Then he was loaded into the ambulance.
Hari Dev Singh had suffered multiple organ failure that morning. If I hadn’t been practicing 2.5 hours of Long Ek Ong Kar he might not be here today. As he regained consciousness in the emergency room Hari Dev looked at me and said, ‘you saved my life.’ I said, ‘I think Long Ek Ong Kar saved your life.’ [Part three next week.]

International Healer Caterina Pellegrino
|
Caterina Pellegrino
will be at KYL on Sunday, August 7
1 pm to 3 pm |
Caterina Pellegrino is a gifted international healer who will visit KYL for the first time in August for a special session of group healing, prayer and meditation. Caterina has dedicated most of her life to healing those in need throughout the world. She came into this world with a profound knowledge of energetics. Since most disease is based in the energy field of emotions, Caterina has the ability to remove the blocks of energy that cause pain, disease and emotional discomfort.
Caterina is quite humble and claims only to be a vessel for the Holy Spirit to move through her and that God does the healing. Many who have experienced her return to be touched by her energy again and again. She has also taught others how to access their own gifts of healing through opening to the Creative and Infinite Source.
So, come to KYL on Sunday, August 7, for prayer, deep meditation, silence, and hands-on healing in a group setting with Caterina. (Private healing sessions with Caterina cost $150, so, this is quite a lovely and inexpensive introduction to her work.) Seating is limited. (We will sit in chairs.) Advance registration suggested

“I Will Never Be the Same Again”
Teacher Training at KYL
Partial Scholarships Available 10
Weekends Over 8 Months - Oct. 28 to May 6
|
|
A note from Shakta Kaur: “I will never be the same again,”
is what we often hear from those who have taken Kundalini Yoga
Teacher Training at KYL . My initial motivation was to
deepen my personal yoga and meditation practice. And, in
truth, I had no intention of teaching Kundalini Yoga. I
already had a degree in music education and had taught public
school music for several years. I really thought that my
teaching days were over!
It wasn’t long, however, before I found myself informally sharing
the techniques I’d learned during Teacher Training not only with
my friends and family, but with the loan officer at our bank and
other business contacts. I laughed out loud when I
realized that I was, in fact, ‘teaching!’
Whatever draws you to this amazing course in Kundalini Yoga as
taught by Yogi Bhajan, know that the end result will be perfect
for you even while it might also be totally different than what
you initially expected. Along the way your mental,
physical and emotional growth will be enhanced in a supportive
and cozy environment. You will learn the tools to not only
deepen your own personal practice, but, you will also gain the
knowledge and self-confidence to elevate yourself and others
into a more peaceful and powerful space.

PAYING IT FORWARD... The Devi Scholarship
A Partial Scholarship for KYL’s Teacher Training Course
- Application Deadline Sept. 1 |
“Sunia Sidh Peer Sur Naath” -- Japji, Pauri 8
‘By hearing God’s Name the mortal becomes a perfect person,
religious guide, spiritual hero and a great yogi.’
These words are from Japji,* a
meditative prayer, chanted by Kundalini yogis worldwide during the
early morning hours. And these words were the inspiration
behind the creation of a special scholarship fund—the Devi
Scholarship—available to applicants of Chicago’s Kundalini Yoga
in the Loop (KYL) 220-hour Yoga Alliance (YA) registered Teacher
Training course.
These words took hold in the soul of one of our
first graduates. His response was to begin a scholarship fund
with personal funds so that whoever wanted to take the incredible
journey called Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training as taught by Yogi
Bhajan® could do so regardless of financial need. He named the
fund after his mother, Devi Kaur, because it was she who urged him
to take his first Kundalini Yoga class. It was his way of
paying back for all that he had received from the course—gurudakshina**
of another sort.
Once the formation of the scholarship fund was
announced it wasn’t long before his fellow teachers-in-training
contributed their own money--to ‘pay it forward’--as one of them
said. Soon we began receiving e-mails like this one from a
Devi Scholarship recipient: “Shakta, I wanted you and Hari Dev
Singh to know that the Devi Scholarship (which enabled me to take
Teacher Training) has SAVED my life...
literally. I was broke in more ways than one. I needed
much healing in both body and mind. You knew that my financial
situation was such that without the scholarship I would not have
been able to take the course. What you don’t know is that I
believe Kundalini Yoga has healed both my body from Chron's Disease
and my brain from its Bi-Polar behavior. It truly has been a
medicine of the divine. I constantly see changes in me that I
know are a result of the Teacher Training course. I now have a
new hope in my life. None of this would have been possible
without the Devi Scholarship. I thank you and all the teachers
before me who made this possible.” [Click
Here for more stories.]
Devi Scholarship hopefuls complete an
application form that requires answers to six questions (download
form).
With the application they include a monetary deposit indicating to
the universe their commitment to take the course. They are
asked to write a biography of themselves; to describe a teacher of
any kind whom they admire; to describe their current yoga practice;
and to write about their motivation to take Kundalini Yoga Teacher
Training. They also need to offer some proof of their
financial need. Finally, personal interviews are conducted to
determine which candidates will eventually receive a Devi
Scholarship.
The application
deadline for this fall’s Devi Scholarship recipients is Thursday,
September 1.

* Japji is a
prayer which relates the conscious mind to the soul. It is one
of the daily prayers of the Sikhs. ‘Jap-’ is often translated
as ‘song of’ and ‘-ji’ as ‘the soul.’ As a result, Japji is
called ‘the song of the soul.’
** Gurudakshina is tithing, or, an offering as an expression of
gratitude for the teachings. ‘-Dakshina’ will give ‘drib
drishtee.’ You will start seeing the unseen. It will
mega-multiply you financially, socially and personally.

New Moon - July 30
11 Days After - August 10
Full Moon - August 13
(Above Dates Adjusted for Central Time Zone)

New Moon
The New Moon is when you are at your lowest...energy-wise. It is
a good day to fast on lemon and water. Fast from sun-up until the
next morning at breakfast, when you "break" the "fast."
Waxing Moon
... is the time between the New Moon and the day before the Full
Moon. During this time the energy of the body moves into your higher
centers (chakras). This is the time to bring new things, new people
or new relationships into your life or to accelerate the progress
of your special projects.
11 Days After
New Moon
Yogi Bhajan taught that this is the day when you are in balance.
The glandular system readjusts itself on this day. Your metabolism
is changing, so if you eat very lightly (green foods) or if you
live just on water and lemon today, your health will be perfect.
Eat very lightly during the day. Eat only one meal and drink lemon
and water the rest of the day.
Full Moon
You are naturally accelerated on a full moon. You are at your highest
energy level. The secretions in your body will be at their maximum,
so you don't want your energy being used to consume food. Save your
energy to reconstruct yourself. Try to drink only liquids on this
day. If you feel you must eat, drink only milk. (But, don't drink
cold milk right out of the refrigerator. Milk should be brought
to a boil. Allow the milk to foam up and then bring the heat down
so the milk is on a slow boil for 5-10 minutes. While cooking it,
you may add a pinch of ground turmeric, a pinch of black pepper,
a cinnamon stick, or a few pinches of ginger to reduce any mucous
causing side effect.)
Waning Moon
... is the time between the Full Moon and the day before the New
Moon. This is the best time to remove things, relationships or situations
from your life that no longer serve you. It is not generally thought
of as the best time to start a new project.

A Thought From Yogi Bhajan
"
Sadhana* is a conscious activity. We consciously choose to rise up, to exercise the body, and to meditate. Each day is different. Each day, we are different. Every 72 hours all the cells of the body totally change. Sickness comes and goes. Motivation waxes and wanes. But through all the flux of life, through all the variations of the mind and heart, we consciously choose to maintain a constant and regular practice.
